Frequently Asked Questions

Why Use A Vornado Air Purifier?

Vornado Air Purifiers are designed to keep the air throughout your room as clean as possible.

Vornado Air Purifiers are highly efficient at removing 99.97% of airborne allergens and particles that have the potential to affect your breathing and health - ranging from minor issues such as a cough, to some more serious issues like allergies or asthma attacks.

Placing a Vornado Air Purifier in a room can help you ensure that you and your family (and even your pets) are breathing in fresh, clean air all year round.

What Are Airborne Pollutants?

Airborne pollutants are particles and allergens that have the capacity to get into the air, making them all too easy to breathe in. These include dust, pollen, pet dander, smoke, bacteria, mould spores, dust mites and even odours.

These pollutants are very small and very light, meaning that they last in the air for hours before settling down again. This process happens more often than we think and is usually just a result of general day-to-day household movement and activities, such as opening windows, blinds and doors, walking over carpet, pets scratching against furniture and so on.

A Vornado HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filter removes 99.97% of all particles as small as 0.3 microns from the air that passes through it. To give you an idea of what that means; pollen grains are 30 microns, dust mite waste particles are about 20 microns, and cat allergen particles vary from about 1 to 20 microns in size. The use of a Vornado AC350 will reduce these particulates in your space, ensuring cleaner air for you to breathe in.

How Do Air Purifiers Work?

Vornado Air Purifiers effectively filter airborne pollutants from the air using vortex action: each unit is able to effectively bounce the airflow of filtered air off of wall and ceiling surfaces and back through - creating a continuous, unbroken cycle of clean, filtered air.

The Vornado AC350 Air Purifier is recommended for a room size up to 20spm to ensure effective air purification. The smaller the room, the more often the air is circulated through the unit, as it’s able to bounce air off walls and back through more frequently. To break it down even further, in a room the size of 20 sq. metres, the AC350 is cleaning the air every 11 minutes for Pollen, 12.5 minutes for Dust and 15 minutes for Smoke.

Another point to consider is the direction the Air Purifier delivers the clean air back into the room. Some popular air cleaners blow the cleaned air downwards onto the floor. This has been shown to blow allergens from the floor (especially if it is carpeted) into the air, thus negating the benefit of the filter. More effectively designed Air Purifiers including the Vornado AC350 Air Purifier, do not exhaust the clean air downwards, instead delivering it upward and back into the open space of the room.

Rather than relying on one filter to do all the work, Vornado Air Purifiers use a dual-filter process to ensure almost every airborne particle is removed during each circulation.

What Kind Of Filters Are Used?

Vornado Air Purifiers rely on two types of filters: True HEPA and activated carbon.

Activated carbon filters are essential for filtering out some of the heavier airborne pollutants - such as smoke, fumes and odours. These are the ones we may not think about often, and aren’t pleasant to breathe in.

True HEPA filters are extremely effective in removing small particles such as pollen, bacteria and dust from the air - eliminating 99.97% of airborne particles down to 0.3 microns in size.

As if that wasn’t convincing enough, True HEPA filtration has actually been used for many years in nuclear facilities, manufacturing clean rooms and medical facilities where clean air and “Absolute Filtration” is required.

How Often Can I Run My Air Purifier?

Your lungs never take a day off, so neither should your Air Purifier.

People are quick to assume that Air Purifiers are only beneficial to use during hay fever and allergy seasons (such as spring & autumn), the reality is that our lungs benefit from fresh air all year round - which is why Vornado Air Purifiers are designed to be run 24/7.

With a renewed focus on health, safety and hygiene in the last few years, it's more important than ever to ensure the air you and your family breathe is as clean as possible.
